Chapter 18:
Machines, Not People
The domain names and IP addresses are logged, not the person's name.
The same person can access your site from two different computers, or from
two different dial up sessions, and it would look like two different
people.
Or the same domain name could
actually be two different visitors.
Generally speaking, we identify a
unique visitor to a web site by assuming that all hits from the same
domain name within a 30 minute period are from the same person.
But this is just an approximation.
