Some expect bandwidth to take on the same exponential growth as computing
power.
Already in the past 10 years modem speeds have gone from 1,200 bits per
second to 56,000, adding a zero and then some.
Cable modems are coming on line now that provide 10 million bits per
second of bandwidth.
Phone companies may begin to market new high speed digital services to
consumers, although nothing they have done in the past fifteen years or so
provides much evidence they are willing to take even this moderate
risk or that they have any notion at all about what is going
on.
